Thule calls 24″ a minimum spacing for long loads like your kayak, so long as it is tied down properly. I would recommend the ‘fixed points’ over the clip-in style…the clips can shift when loaded if not installed very accurately, the fixed point racks have no physical way to slip back. Also the fixed points would center the boat on the roof a bit better.
